My name is Esther Bickerton. I work from home in my thatched cottage in the lovely village of Horseheath, just outside Cambridge.
I’ve been making traditional Scotch eggs for friends and family for years and then started experimenting with different flavours and ingredients. A friend suggested they were so good I could sell them and so I decided to try it out and see what happened.
I took samples round our local shops and food outlets and the response was fantastic – and so The Kitsch Hen was born. I swiftly had to expand into a purpose built professional kitchen, and I now supply butchers chains, local cafes and bakeries, pubs and restaurants around Cambridge and Haverhill.
I have a passion for cooking and creating food for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re a vegan, a vegetarian or a meat-eater. I specialise in making different varieties of scotch eggs but I also make quiches, and sausage rolls cooked to order. My wonderful colleague Sharon and I love what we do , enjoy thinking up new flavours for you to try, and endeavour to bring you the best products made to the highest standards of quality and food safety.
All my Scotch egss are homemade and freshly prepared. I use local free range eggs, and local produce so the environmental impact of our food miles is as low as possible.

Only the Best Ingredients
We pride our selves on the quality and freshness of our ingredients, all of which are sourced locally. We use free range Blythbourgh Pork supplied by the wonderful Keddington butchers in Suffolk and our golden yolked free range eggs are delivered by Rattleston Farm. All our flavours are natural, and stand strong on their own – but a little bit of pickle is always a nice addition!
All of recipes for our at the Kitsch Hen are created by Esther, from the sausage meat mix to the handmade breadcrumbs that coat our eggs and give our eggs that beautiful golden crunch. New recipes are created regularly, and the tried and trusted regulars are always on offer. Esther is passionate about her eggs and loves to come up with new inspirations, so keep a look out for something new…
Everything by Hand
Nearly everything at the Kitsch Hen is made lovingly by hand, whether it’s the traditional sausage meat, the risotto, the the Indian Spiced Chickpea or the Dauphinoise potatoes to name but a few of our fabulous recipes. But we don’t just stop there, our breadcrumbs are also hand made in our kitchen, we want to give our customers the best possible experience, and keep them coming back for more.
